I was in the Los Angeles area last week for meetings. During our Friday afternoon lunch break, we walked to nearby restaurant called Spitz. Along the way I spotted what I thought was a quintessential California scene.
An oversized apartment building in faux-Spanish architecture.
Palm trees.
A 1960s VW Beetle.
But wait….what’s with that chain?
The Beetle is chained to the tree!
I couldn’t help wondering if it was chained up to prevent it from being stolen or towed.
Maybe both.
This cracks me up, Jo! When I was in high school, my first car was a ’64 bug, very much like the one in your pic but no rag top, but the same color. My current car is a ’72 bug, same color. 🙂 However, I never had to chain either bug to a tree or anything else!
(It looks like you probably took this pic as a B&W, or maybe you digitized it that way, but I prefer to think that it’s a white bug. :-))
