Shooting Acid

Posted on March 17, 2010 by Jo

No, I haven't started doing drugs.  But at four months since my knee surgery, I have entered a rehab/recovery phase that does include injecting something called hyaluronic acid into my knee joint.  Today I had the second of three injections that are given at two-week intervals.

Hyaluronic acid is a substance that is naturally part of the joint fluid, but my knee condition means that the concentration of this acid in my joint is greatly diminished.

In recommending this treatment, my surgeon likened it to having a lube job on done on the joint.  So I'm now considering my jaunts across town for these shots to be like a trip to Jiffy Lube.
