We finished off a great day of sightseeing this evening by attending a performance of traditional Mongolian music and dancing. Fantastic costumes and fascinating musical instruments–a good time was had by all.
The other highlight of the day (besides the glorious weather) was running into friends who have recently moved here from China. They had no idea we were in town, so were pretty surprised to see us sitting outside the National Museum when they walked up. We ended up having a lovely lunch together at a German bakery.
Tomorrow we head out into the countryside with our hosts for the weekend to Gun Galuut Nature Preserve to hunt for (with cameras, of course) Argali Wild Mountain Sheep. We're looking forward to getting out of the city to experience what Mongolia is really famous for — wide open spaces.
