As we have been exploring the area in and around St. Anthony, NL this week, we have noticed painted stones in various places — on picnic tables, under chairs, along hiking trails.
My curiosity finally got the better of me today and I asked someone in a local shop “what’s up with the painted rocks?”
She told me that they are part of The Rock Art Hunt, an activity of the upcoming Iceberg Festival. People have been asked to paint rocks and leave them around town. If a person finds a rock, they can keep it or hide it again.
When we spotted them on our hikes today, it never occurred to me that I might be able to take one home as a souvenir! I did, however, take a few pictures!
Now I know what to do the next time I see one!
I found my first one a couple years ago along the LaConner waterfront. This is quite popular to do out here. Yes you can keep or rehide. I kept mine since it was my first. There are FB pages for local groups and they put their name on back of rocks so u can report a fund to them. What’s cool is you can put Bible verses etc on for encouragement and no one can censor them:).
