I Miss China | Left-behind Elderly

Posted on December 19, 2020December 18, 2020 by Jo

Live-streaming has become a national obsession in China. Everyone seems to be doing it, young and old, stiff and limber! We’re not just talking about live-streaming formal events, but the everyday stuff of life. Live-stream yourself or others doing something interesting and you’re guaranteed to become famous! I love stumbling across video clips from these because they give heart-warming glimpses of everyday life in China, something that is sorely missing from news reporting on China.

Whenever I spot an interesting one on social media, my first thought is I MISS CHINA!!

Consider this, then to be the first installment of an occasional series of posts title I Miss China!

Videos of a group of “left-behind elderly” — aging parents whose children work outside of their hometowns — performing popular dances from Douyin, the Chinese version of TikTok, have gone viral. pic.twitter.com/cGGoESo54y
