I am a fan of David Suchet, the great British actor probably best known to Americans for portraying Hercule Poirot in the wonderful 13-season series produced in the UK. Gracie and I discovered the show during the pandemic and enjoyed watching every one of them.
Suchet began his acting career as a stage actor with the Royal Shakespeare Company ( That’s probably all you need to know about his talent), later moving to film and TV.
In 2015, Biblica published an audio version of the entire Bible (NIV) read by David Suchet. Here’s the description on the Audible page:
“Ever since he became a Christian at the age of forty, it has been Poirot actor David Suchet’s dream to make an audio recording of the complete Bible. In between filming the final episodes of Poirot, David Suchet spent over 200 hours in the recording studio to create the very first full-length audio version of the NIV Bible spoken by a single British actor.”
Having just begun a 6-month sabbatical, I have set out to listen to this entire audio version (83 hours) over the next 6 months.

If you’re looking for a new way to encounter and engage with Scripture, I highly recommend it. Suchet’s dramatic reading of the Bible is incredibly illuminating. He even makes Leviticus riveting!
It is available for download on Audible. If you’re not inclined to pay the Audible prices, each book can be found for free on YouTube.
Another video I recommend is Suchet reading the entire Gospel of Mark from the pulpit at St. Paul’s Cathedral in London.
